tiny rp psa from a tiny rp blog;;

i’ve seen an unnatural amount of ‘popular rp blog’ discussion lately?? just randomly on my dash and i wanted to discuss what i feel like is the thing about being ‘popular’ and having people tell you that you are ‘popular’ and having people ask if you ‘think you’re popular’. i wanna note now that i am not a popular blog by anyone’s standards. this is just observation.

it’s uncomfortable as hell to be called popular. it’s not flattering and most of the time it’s actually kind of scary. people don’t want to approach you because you are ‘popular’. people can get mad at you for the slightest misstep and think you’re bragging or corner you into saying something that they purposefully slant to be negative or stuck-up. being “popular” can either mean feeling totally alone with nobody to play withor feeling overcrowded with drafts piling up and a guilty conscience weighing you down.

as a ‘popular’ blog it becomes almost impossible to gently let someone down. you should never be forced to roleplay with anyone you don’t want to roleplay with, regardless of blog popularity, but ‘popular’ blogs don’t feel they have this freedom all the time because they know their impact and response might be a really harsh blow to someone who looks up to them.

so can we please stop referring to people as ‘popular’ at all? it’s not flattering. i know you’re insecure. i know you’re nervous and anxious and scared, i know that you’re just trying to be nice- but these ‘popular’ blogs? are in the same boat as you. please be kind and courteous! think before you type.
