[ A shaky sigh left Arthur, his gaze breaking away from the forger as a tear escaped his eyes, but quickly wiped it away in anger that he would even dare cry in front of someone, especially if that someone was Eames.

As the distance was closed between them, he couldn’t help but try and take a step back, but the contact of the other’s hand on his hip stopped him, froze him almost. But what Eames said next paralyzed him.

Believe me.

Those words felt like poison to Arthur. How could he? Eames was a deceptive man and liar, he knew that well. … But maybe. Maybe this time he could trust him for once. ]

“… Cobb was the one to notify me over the phone that— You weren’t anywhere to be found. ”

[ He took a breath. ]

“Few days later, he calls me again and— You’re dead thanks to Cobol…”

[ A pause. ]

“I know, it sounded off but— After that, everyone who knew you wouldn’t stop sending their apologies and regrets— which was great by the way.”

[ He said in a bitter tone before his gaze softened again. ]

“… I don’t know what Cobb would have against you— Or why he would even think about spreading something like that. Maybe it was some miscommunication— who knows.”

[ He hated seeing Arthur like this. The point man was normally the one who was composed, who was always put together. Seeing him like this, upset over some sort of rumour, had him wondering who had it out for him. Eames could think of a few people but none that would shake the normal stone cold confidence of Arthur. So who had it out for him? Who would want to shake the confidence of the best point man in the world? When he found out who had it out for him he would make certain they paid. ]

"Cobb? Why would Cobb be contacting you bout me?”

[ None of it made sense. Well, it did and it didn’t. Eames knew Cobb and him had a bit of a nasty history together. He wouldn’t ever work with the extractor again. Not after what had happened during the Fischer job. Cobb was willing to risk all of their lives and if he never saw the man again it would be too soon. Unfortunately it looked like he would be paying the man a visit. ]

“Oh I’m certain I can think of a few reasons as t'why he might want to do such a thing.”

[ The ire was starting to come off of him in waves. When he found Cobb he was going to kill him. Not in reality but in a dream. He would torture the man until he remembered just who he was messing around with. Eames wasn’t the sort to inflict the amount of pain he was thinking about. But in this particular circumstance? It was all warranted. ]

“I’m sorry, Arthur, that you had to go through all of that. As you can see I’m alive and well and definitely not dead. Cobb still out in California? Thinking it might be a good day to pay him a little visit.”

[ And remind him that playing with people’s lives like he had would only end up with him in a lot of trouble. Eames had thought the Fischer job had taught him that lesson. But clearly he’d been mistaken. ]
